Research Translation Core

Core leader: Stephen M. Roberts, Ph.D.
Co-I: Nancy D. Denslow, Ph.D.

The purpose of the Research Translation Core is to coordinate and facilitate the transfer of information derived from Superfund Research Program (SRP) activities to various constituencies. These constituences include, but are not limited to, other environmental health scientists, governmental agencies, industry, community groups, NIEHS, and the general public. The objectives of the Research Translation Core will be achieved through four specific aims: 1) Communicate research findings to public health and environmental government agencies; with Sub-Aim 1a. Create a Governmental Partners Council (GPC) and establish programs for interaction with SRP investigators, and Sub-Aim 1b. Place SRP findings in a risk assessment perspective; 2) Communicate research findings and environmental health information to community stakeholders; 3) Identify outcomes that might lead to new applications and assist investigators in using University resources available for technology transfer, with Sub-Aim 3a. Identify research that might lead to new applications, and 3b. Assist investigators in using University resources available for technology transfer; and 4) Provide content for the program website and listserve, including current information on research findings, as well as other resources of value to stakeholders. The GPC will include representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Center for Environmental Health of the Centers for Disease Control, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Florida Department of Health, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Mechanisms for interaction with the GPC include panel discussions at the annual retreat and visits to partner agencies by SRP investigators. A novel activity of the Research Translation Core will be to conduct translational activities with projects to insure that research findings have value and application in human health and ecological risk assessment. The Research Translation Core will collaborate with the Community Engagement Core and the Training Core on activities to meet the informational needs of partner community groups. The Research Translation Core will build upon previous successes creating new technology from SRP research.
